2008 Regionals Championships Results
|
Well this was truly a historic weekend with special surprises.
• Don Mixon skied for the first time in many years and he Jumped over 20 m and waked almost 18!
• Peter Fleck jumped over 22 m and also ski Slalom, first time on the water in 8 years!
• Ron Scarpa visited with us and I could tell that he was itching to ski but passed up the opportunity.
• The current World Champion and record holder in two events (Tricks and Wakes) Keith St. Onge skied and I know he was please to see some of the old faces returning.
There is talk about an ‘Elite Senior (35+)’ event at next year’s Regionals with some if not all of the following skiers.
• Ron Scarpa
• Ricky Powel (I don’t have a contact email)
• Brian Fuchs (I don’t have a contact email)
• Peter Fleck
• Don Mixon
• Lane Bowers
• Punky Forgiana (I don’t have a contact email)
• Steve Merritt (I don’t’ have a contact email)
• Others: Any suggestions?
Peter Fleck said that he’s in for the “2009 Senior Elite” event and hopes that none of the skiers train, since that’s his plan… I don’t know if we can make this happen, but I would like to give it a go.
Personal best were made my many skiers, but not all of us were this fortunate (see the attached file for final results).
I felt there was a special sense of ‘family’ and ‘closeness’ between the skiers, their family members, our guest, and officials. I hope you felt it as well. I would like to take this moment to let you know that it was my honor to serve you as your Executive Regional Director for the past year…
Some bad news… Betsy Anderson hurt her ankle (maybe strain or hair line facture) in the jump event and she doesn’t know when she might be able to ski again. Other than the standard face plant or two, no other serious injuries occurred.
We all agree that Lake David Park is an amazing facility for footing and family; and there is discussion about hosting a Nationals and/or a World Championships here one day. I personally would not be interested in being the Tournament Director for a Nation/World Championship any sooner than 2011, since we don’t have the skills to do it right yet. I just want to set the record straight.
Banquet and Regional Meeting. We had a great homemade bar-b-q meal at the Regional banquet and everybody really enjoyed it (especially Jim Forester). After dinner we transacted following business:
• We elected Joe Pressendo as the Executive Regional Director
• Mike Holt is to serve as the Regional Director
• Al Hager will be the Reserve Regional Director
• Lisa Pressendo, John Pressendo, and Keith March were nominated for the Jennifer Odem award. See attachment
• Dale Stevens for the Stew McDonald award. See attachment
• Mike Holt for Banana George Blair award. See Attachment
• Betsy Anderson requested donations for the Jennifer Odem Scholarship Foundation and indicated that she had a goal to one day reach $4,000. Chuck Allerger gave his passionate personal story/experience about Jennifer and stepped up to the plate and donated $1000 and he asked the Region to match his donation. Immediately three skiers donated $1000 each and a fourth donated $500 – the result was that $4,500 was raised for this worthy cause.
• The Pressendo family was recognized as the family that contributed the most to our sport the past year; Lisa in scoring, John in judging, Dawn in scoring and managing other details for the region, Joe in serving at the Regional Director, Tournament Director, judge, scoring, and more that I can mention.
• Auction of donated items took place and some money was raised for the USA team. At this time, I don’t know what the figure was, but it’s probably about $300.
• I would like to offer my apologies to Ron Reitz who has served as our announcer for every tournament the past 12 months without being recognized of his efforts. Ron, I’m sorry.
Clinics – Three clinics were held at our Regionals; Driving (class and practical) taught by Mike Salber and Dale Stevens, Judging taught by Dale Stevens and Chuck Allerger, and Scoring taught by Andrea Eggert and Dale Stevens. All of the instruction/instructors were excellent and we will become a more proficient Region because of their efforts.
For those of you reading this email that didn’t make this years Regionals, please know that we truly missed you and hope that you’ll at least visit with us next year like Kay Wiser, the Taylor family, Chip Alleger, and Roger “Moose’ Williams.
I’m sure I missed some details, so please forgive me.
P.S. To Al Hager and those that are concerned with spelling and grammar, please forgive me for any errors, I’m a little tired, but I needed to get this out tonight because tomorrow I’ll be traveling for a week…
