Tom Gaby is Recovering
|
Tom called me this morning to let me know that the surgery to enlarge the passageway where a spinal nerve root exits the spinal canal (http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article554.html) and that it was very painful, but he's expected to recover 100%.
The bad news is that Tom can never jump or do a front to back turn again. This is real hard on Tom, especially since he held the Mens III and Mens IV jump record for many years.
The good news – the doctor said that Tom can start footing in September, he just has to be smart and always where a neck brace. Tom prays that no other footer has this problem and he’s encouraging us all to wear neck braces (tomgabey@bellsouth.net, 770-652-6671).
I personally NEVER ski backwards or jump without my custom neck brace and I ask all those that read this email to where a neck brace for any of the following:
1. Learn the back deep start.
2. Learn to slalom backwards
3. Jump
4. Learn turns
If you would like detail instructions and photo of my custom neck brace, let me know.
P.S. Tom is a Senior Judge and he will be judging Holtzy III and Regional’s this year.
