When imagining a recipe for barefooting achievement, the words flat glass, and warm come to mind. At this year’s Southern Glass Barefoot Waterskiing Tournament all the attendees received exactly that. Set right here in Port St. Lucie, Florida on the C-24 canal, Oak Hammock Park, the skiers performed admirably in all the events of the tournament.
There were 9 personal bests set by our skiers. One of which was Jerome Delvaille, of France in both tricks and slalom. Matt Ellis who had not skied a tournament in several years set a personal best in both the trick and slalom events. Steve Epifanio of Tampa, Florida set a personal best in the slalom event. Jim Forester set a personal best in tricks. Brian Hetherington set a personal best in slalom moving him into the Open Pro division and potentially setting the national open slalom record with a pending score of 17.2.
Even Midwestern skiers attended the tournament. A. J. Porreca of Wisconsin, set a personal best in both tricks and slalom. Our regional director as well as the tournaments founder and coordinator, Joe Pressendo set a personal best in the slalom event. Lisa Pressendo set personal bests in both tricks and slalom, went open in both tricks and slalom and has pending national records in both tricks and Wakes. Along with our pending national records is your very own Mike (Holtzy) Holt in the trick event. Our local skiers such as, Bill Thiel set a personal best in the slalom event.
Perhaps it was the stellar conditions, or perhaps just a spectacle date the allowed skiers all over the globe to have performed to the best of their abilities on that exact date. For at that very same time, a tournament in both the Midwest and France were in progress allowing skiers to achieve what they could. The exquisite conditions and admirable performances of the tournament are sure to be a memorable experience for the rest of the season. Until next time, strive for the impossible, and remember you did it here, at Southern Glass Barefoot Waterskiing Tournament.
