Some Not Too Happy Skiers

The following emails I received from two skiers:
Comment No. 1 - Before I go off I better call someone. Why list an event if is only for a select few. Sold out & limits sure are not good for anything in America. I will open a new retail store but only let a select few shop? What a business plan. Lets see I want to ski the nationals Wait I can't my regional tournament was full. When did this come up we can't get a 150 skiers to Nationals & the Eastern Regionals, can barely have an event & the South with all the pro skiers can barely get 50 Makes me wonder why I want to be a part of this sport?????
Comment No. 2 - Why are you limiting the number of skiers at tournament? I thought we are trying to grow the sport, not kill it.
Holtzy’s Response. Not to make things worst, but in addition to limiting skier participation this year, it’s not likely that Open Skiers will get to ski two rounds at any of the tournaments this year. What’s the deal? Am I trying to ‘kill the sport?’ Am I just trying to tick everybody off?
No tournament can take place without proper officials and if we are going to have Standing List or Record Capability events, we need to have at least one Senior Judge, Driver, Scorer, and Safety. Unfortunately in the Southern Region we have limited Senior Judges, Scorer, and Safety Directors – this means that we have two choices. Have the officials work ten hours days solid without a break, or limit the number of skiers that can be accommodate based on the number of officials available.
By the way, the skier limitation numbers are greater than the number of skiers that skied last year, and the numbers do not include officials, so in reality the numbers are higher than they appear.
Each tournament director sets their own skier limitations based on many factors so you’ll need to contact them directly if you don’t like the limitation they set.

What can you do to help the Tournament Directors allow more skiers and to get Open two rounds to grow the sport? Become an official and get involved so that we don’t have to lean so heavily on the few officials we have. Our officials are doing a great job (often they are not appreciated) and they need your help.
